We had reservations made a couple of months in advance. We even had bicycles rented to make the trek to the center of historic Weimar. After a grueling day on the autobahn driving our rented Ford Mondeo from Potsdam to Weimar on July 16, we finally arrived late in the evening. It was a huge building with a fairly large parking lot of the kind where you need cards or tokens to get in and out. We started to unload our suitcases, but when we went up to see our room on the second floor, we just about freaked. This building was constructed in the Soviet era. It has low ceilings and a closed-in, claustrophobic feel. The air-conditioning wasn't working well. And the windows in the room were tiny. I said, "I'm not spending the night here." We checked out and got our money back. To the credit of the hotel, the man at the front desk was able to make reservations for us at the Dorint right across the street from the Park on the Ilm, one of the nicest stays in Germany. Sorry, Leonardo, you just weren't for us.
Tip: It's a short walk across the street to the Falkenburg Restaurant. All rooms are convenient to this very good place to eat dinner.
